The Raºca Monastery was founded by Prince Petru Rareº in 1542. The architecture is typically Moldavian: it is triconch and has a steeple on the nave. Ten years after it was erected, the monastery was decorated with interior and exterior Byzantine paintings made by the Greek master Stamatelos Kotronas. These have religious themes such as “The Ladder of Saint John the Baptist”, “The Last Judgment”, “The Life of Saint Anthony,” etc.
